Next-gen consoles have been out for some time now, but with such high demand for the latest and greatest Sony PlayStation 5, it’s proven to be a great challenge just getting your hands on one.
Sold out from stores all over the world, and being sold at ridiculous markups by scalpers and independent sellers, many of us are going to have to wait for the PS5 to once again grace the shelves of games stores and Sony outlets in Malaysia.
Fortunately, if you can’t wait to get your game on, current-gen consoles are now available at far more attractive prices.
The Sony PlayStation 4 may be an eight year-old gaming console, and while it’s not as souped-up as its newer and more modern successor, the PS4 can still hold its own as a top-notch gaming platform that can handle all but the latest and most demanding titles with ease.
If you’re looking to buy a Sony PlayStation 4 in Malaysia, then you’ll be happy to know that with supplies high and prices low, now is a great time to buy.
Here’s everything you need to know before you buy a PS4:

Since the original PS4 that came out in 2013 has since been discontinued and replaced with the similar-spec but smaller form-factor PS4 Slim, we’ve decided not to include it in our price guide.
Of course, if you prefer the original bulkier design, you’ll be able to find sellers out there that sell either used or new (unopened) original PS4 models, but determining an accurate price range might not be possible.

Does Sony Still Sell PS4?
Yes! The PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro are both readily available on the official Sony store and in authorized dealers around Malaysia.
However, the original version that came out in 2013 has since been discontinued. In terms of performance, the original PS4 is no different from the PS4 Slim (apart from a handful of more modern components).
Is Sony Going to Discontinue PS4?
Yes, eventually. Like with every other PlayStation model ever released, the PS4 will eventually get discontinued to allow the manufacturer to devote more resources towards newer and more advanced consoles.
Just like the PlayStation 2 got discontinued in 2013 after 12 years of providing unforgettable gaming experiences to homes around the world, and the PlayStation 3 that got discontinued back in 2017, the PS4 will soon be replaced by the newer, next-gen PS5.
In fact, as early as January 2021, Sony has already discontinued production of the PS4 Pro, so the only PS4 still in production is the PS4 Slim.
Is PS4 Worth Buying in 2023?
Definitely! There are a lot of reasons to buy the PlayStation 4 in 2023, as well as a lot of factors that make still one of the most relevant gaming consoles you can buy despite the launch of the newer PS5.
For one, PS5 stocks around the world are getting sold out, so it’s become increasingly challenging just getting your hands on one.
If you’d rather have a high-end gaming console right now with minimum hassle, the PS4 is readily available in shops around the world.
Another thing to consider is price: since the PS5 came out, you can now get the PS4 for much lower prices than before, whereas limited PS5 stocks are actually pushing the prices way up.
Finally, since the PS5 is a brand-new console, there aren’t even that many PS5-exclusive titles that you can play, so getting yourself a PS4 will still let you play almost every game available on the PlayStation 5, barring a handful of the latest titles and releases.

While the PS4 Pro is still one of the most powerful consoles on the market with plenty of juice to run even the most demanding titles, the PS5 is faster and even more powerful, well-suited for playing the latest upcoming games for next-gen consoles.
Can You Play PS3 Games on PS5?
Can a PS5 Play PS3 and PS4 Games? - Sony PlayStation 4 Price Malaysia
The answer is: sort of! Sony promised that the PS5 will be able to play older titles from the PS2 onwards through a neat backwards compatibility system they have going on, but there will be some limitations.
For one thing, you won’t be able to play the entire PS3 game library on your PS5 – just a handful of titles. Another thing to note is that the PS5 won’t be able to play your PS3 game discs – so physical copies of your favorite PS3 games won’t work.
You will be able to play a select number of digital copies of your PS3 games, so that’s a plus, especially since Sony is focusing on getting the best and most celebrated PS3 titles ready for backwards compatibility so fans won’t have to miss out on the titles that defined an entire generation of gaming.
