Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Started The Promotion Of “Mingei (Japanese Folk Art)” Which Valued Hand-Crafted Art Of Ordinary People And Discovered Beauty In Everyday Ordinary Objects. Soetsu Also Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan (The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan).

Sori Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934. He Was Inspired By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand When She Worked In Japan In The Early 1940S, And He Became Particularly Interested In “Design And Objects.” After World War Ii, Sori Designed A Variety Of Products, Such As Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles, Olympic Cauldrons, And Pedestrian Overpasses. He Is Most Famous For His Water Kettle, Butterfly Chair In 1954, And Porcelain And Silverware Series.
