Background

Sori Yanagi Was One Of Japan'S Leading Product Designers, Born In Tokyo In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Pioneer In Japanese Folk Art, Promoting Handcrafted Art And Discovering Beauty In Everyday Objects. He Was Also Instrumental In The Establishment Of The Nihon Mingeikan Museum. Sori Yanagi Went On To Study Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School, And Was Heavily Influenced By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand.

After World War Ii, Sori Yanagi Designed A Wide Range Of Products, From Furniture And Vehicles To Olympic Cauldrons And Pedestrian Overpasses. His Most Famous Designs Include The Butterfly Chair In 1954 And His Porcelain And Silverware Series. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd Of Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan Is The Manufacturer Of Most Of Sori Yanagi'S Kitchenware And Tableware.
