Sori Yanagi, Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915, Was The Son Of Soetsu Yanagi. Soetsu Was A Promoter Of Mingei (Japanese Folk Art), Which Highlighted The Beauty Of Everyday, Hand-Crafted Objects. He Also Helped To Established The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan.
In 1934, Sori Began Studying Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School. This Is Where He Developed An Interest In Design And Objects, And Was Inspired By The Work Of Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand. After Wwii, Sori Designed Many Products, Such As Furniture, Olympic Cauldron, And Pedestrian Overpass, But His Most Famous Designs Are The Butterfly Chair In 1954 And His Porcelain And Silverware Series.
Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Founded In 1955 In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, Manufactures Most Of Sori Yanagi'S Kitchenware And Tableware. This Is The Center Of Cutlery And Steel Manufacturing.
